Have you ever done something for others only to find out that it helped you as well? Something like that happened to me during Vacation Bible School this year. Going into VBS, my
planning and preparing was just for the kids to have a good time and learn about Jesus, but something happened – they rubbed off on me! With all of the enthusiasm and fun, as well as a good message that I heard, I left recharged and ready for more. Isn’t it funny how things work out like that sometimes? Our VBS verse was:

“His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” (2 Peter 1:3)

As a Christian believer walks through life, there will be many obstacles that try to pull them away from living a godly lifestyle. Yet the scripture states that the believer has everything needed to live such a life, and not be pulled away. The Christian should indeed strive for moral excellence; however, the strength to live a godly life comes through the “knowledge of him who called us”, not self-will. The “knowledge” is not just intellectual, but rather a close relationship with Christ. When a believer draws near to Him, it empowers them to live a life that pleases God as well as produce growth. So, if you find yourself in a rut when it comes to living a godly lifestyle, remember that the strength to succeed comes from the one who called you! It is His divine power, so draw near to Him.

Blessings,
Jeff
