The Sewing Sisters have been busy with quilts, pants, dresses, dolls, bears, and other things for the Christmas shoe boxes. We also have completed our first basic sewing class for beginners. This year is a busy one!

For those of you who are not familiar with this activity group, we started several years ago to make prayer quilts for the seriously ill in our congregation, especially those members in the nursing homes. We have recently started making fidget quilts and we’re beginning to make pocket prayer quilts. To date we have made and given out 72 prayer quilts.

Our next addition was to help with the Christmas shoe boxes by making pillow case dresses. Last year bears and dolls were added. Over 200 toys were made for the boxes by the Sewing Sisters.

This year we had several people who could not sew but wanted to help. So, we had our first basic sewing classes. We also have ironing, stuffing, face painting, tie placing, hand stitching, and such to be done by those non-sewing helpers. So we can always find something you can help with and we welcome you!

We meet at least two times a month. The first Wednesday is to work on Operation Christmas Child shoe box gifts. The third Wednesday is for church projects like the prayer quilts, fidget quilts, and pocket prayer quilts. We do occasionally have extra days to meet during the month.

July will be “Christmas in July” for the Operation Christmas shoe boxes. We will meet every Wednesday
to complete the items for the boxes. We also pickup materials and sew at home. We welcome anyone who can help.

The majority of our materials and machines are donated. We do have a church budget for other needed items and are very careful not to waste the provisions God has given for the ministry. We will always take donations that we can use. See the list of items we take. If you have any questions Phyllis Reneau, Sandy Ralston, and Heather McCann or any of the members will be glad to talk with you.
