A section of the library is devoted to biographies. While this section is currently small it contains books that depicts the story of someone’s life. The person may be still alive, someone who lived centuries ago, someone who is globally famous, a hero forgotten or even a special group of people. The definition of a good Christian biography has been de-scribed as having history, theology, adventure, and psy-chology all intertwined through personal experiences which can ultimately deepen our understanding of human nature.

Some biographical books that can be found in our library include stories about Jimmy Carter, Hel-en Keller, Fanny Crosby, and Billy Graham, as well as other members of this family – just to name a few. This month’s focus is on one biography that you may want to check out.

The Story of Annie Armstrong
Annie Armstrong is described as a lay Southern Baptist denominational leader instrumental in the founding of the Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU). Wanda Lee, previous executive direc-tor of the WMU provided the following description of the book:

“From the moment she allowed her name to be submitted as the inaugural leader of WMU, the stage was set for Annie Armstrong to become a legend among Baptists. Her tenacity, perseverance, and strong will provided the necessary skills to launch what has become one of the greatest forces for missions in modern history. Cathy Butler has captured the essence of the life of this incredible missions leader. Her descriptive storytelling will take you back to the early history of WMU and rein-force the purpose for which WMU exists today. Miss Annie’s marching orders to “Go Forward!” are still valid today as we seek to challenge followers of Christ to under-stand and be radially involved in the mission of God.”
