As I sit and write this month’s article I have just enjoyed good singing, good preaching and good food. If you’re guessing where I was at, then you must not have come to the Old-Fashioned Camp Meeting! I really enjoyed the service, and it brought back a childhood memory as Brother Chad Kelly preached out of Galatians.

I was not raised in a Christian home, but from time to time I would go to church with friends who went to church. Once when I was about 12 years old I attended church with a neighborhood friend in Columbus, GA., it was summertime and I wore short pants to the service that day. During the service a lady sitting in front of me turned to me and stated: “if you don’t have any pants I will buy you some”. As a non-churched kid, I didn’t understand what she was getting at and I responded to her that I had pants at home. It wasn’t until years later that I understood what she meant. You see, that lady had no concern that I was not saved and was on the path to hell, but she cared enough about whether I wore shorts or pants to church that she said something to me about it.

The apostle Paul stated in Romans 12:9 “Let love be without hypocrisy”. In other words, don’t just pretend to love others, but really love them. What are we doing church? What is our focus on? Are we like that lady who was so concerned about one’s appearance that she overlooked the spiritual need? I sure hope not!

Blessings,
Jeff
